Cost & quotes

How much does painting cost in Ottawa?

As a guide, a bedroom costs about $450–800 for walls only, a three-bedroom interior about $4,500–8,500, an exterior $5,500–15,000 and a sprayed kitchen of cabinets $3,500–6,500. Try our cost estimator for a ballpark.

Are your quotes free?

Yes. The visit and your itemized, written quote are free, with no obligation.

Why do painting quotes vary so much?

Usually because they aren’t quoting the same job. Prep, primer, the paint line, the number of coats, ceilings and trim are often left vague or left out. Our quotes list each one so you can compare fairly. See comparing painting quotes.

Does the price include paint?

Yes. Primer, paint, prep materials, protection and cleanup are included, with the brand, line, sheen and number of coats written on the quote.

Paint & prep

What paint do you use?

Premium lines from major paint makers, chosen for each surface: low-VOC interior paints, exterior acrylics, cabinet enamels and breathable masonry coatings. If you have a brand or colour in mind, we’re happy to use it.

How many coats do you apply?

Two full coats as standard, with primer wherever there are repairs, stains, bare surfaces or a big colour change. Deep colours sometimes need a third coat, which we’ll tell you about up front.

Do you help choose colours?

Yes. We can bring large painted samples or paint test patches on your walls so you can see colours in your own light, morning and evening, before committing.

Do you repair walls before painting?

Yes. Normal nail holes and small dents are part of our prep. Larger holes, cracks, nail pops and water stains are listed as repairs on the quote. See drywall repair.

Can you paint over old oil-based paint?

Yes, with the right prep: cleaning, scuff-sanding and a bonding primer before a modern waterborne paint. Skipping that step is a common reason trim paint peels.

Timing & weather

How long does a paint job take?

Most rooms take one to two days, and a three-bedroom interior four to eight working days. Exteriors usually take four to ten days, weather permitting, and kitchen cabinets five to ten days including cure time.

When can you paint outside in Ottawa?

Usually from mid-May to early October, on dry days with the right temperatures and no frost overnight. See the best time to paint an exterior.

Can you paint inside in the winter?

Yes. Winter is a good time for interior painting. We use low-VOC, low-odour paints and fans to keep air moving while windows stay closed.

During the work

Do I need to move furniture or be home?

No. We move and cover furniture and put it back afterwards; just take down art and clear small breakables. You don’t need to be home while we work.

Can we stay in the house while you paint?

Yes. We work room by room, so the rest of the house stays usable, and bedrooms are usually back in use the same night.

What happens to leftover paint?

We leave labelled leftover paint for touch-ups, and take empty cans and waste away for recycling or proper disposal.

Which areas do you serve?

We paint homes and businesses across Ottawa, including Stittsville, Kanata, Carp, Richmond, Riverside South, Manotick, Greely, Barrhaven, Orleans and Findlay Creek. Not on the list? Call or text and ask.

Warranty & insurance

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. Every job comes with a written 3-year workmanship warranty covering peeling, flaking and blistering caused by our work. See our warranty page for details.

Are you insured?

Yes. Ryan’s carries full liability insurance and WSIB coverage, and we’re happy to send certificates before any work starts.

Do you work safely with lead paint in older homes?

Yes. On pre-1960s surfaces we plan to sand or scrape, we test first, and if lead is present we use lead-safe containment and cleanup.
